Five tips for a 'healthy lifestyle' without exercise

Updated: Sep 13, 2022

What's a 'healthy lifestyle' anyway?

There's a lot of chat and plenty of info available out there about healthy living.

Some people exercise 3-5 times a week, eat lean meats, or no meats, never drink or smoke, or do drink and smoke and perhaps it does all balance out in the end. Who knows?

Our needs are different

It’s important to have the right balance for you. And only you can assess what works or not by becoming aware of your choices, how they make you feel and the impact they have on your day-to-day life.

Balance is key. Have a look at my five key tips below and have a bit of fun experimenting and exploring yourself to discover what works for you.

  1. Eat well: unprocessed foods where possible and whatever else you want… well you have to have a life right! I have a rule for myself where if I eat homecooked, clean foods for 80% of my meals, then anything else goes. And I don't feel guilty about the ice cream, the chocolate and crisps because I have reprogrammed my subconscious to love eating well so in actuality most of the time I now prefer to eat clean. I feel good when I eat well - my body functions better, my hormones are more balanced and therefore my energy levels are more stable.

  2. Sleep well: figure out what works for you. Is it 6 hrs or 9 hrs a night? I’ve recently worked out that my optimal sleep is between 7 - 7.5 hours in the winter and 6 - 6.5 hours a night in the summer. I wake up fresh and ready for the day, especially with a morning exercise routine to get my system started.

  3. Remember to breathe: consciously and with awareness to really allow the oxygen to flow throughout the body and if you can try to get out of the city as much as you possibly can to get some real air.

  4. Keep the mind active and engaged: read something to allow your mind to create, do puzzles or play games (try a board game or quiz instead of a mobile / tablet / console game).

  5. Do something fun: take a class (pottery, painting, drawing, cooking, dance, or of course yoga)

Figure out what a ‘healthy lifestyle’ means for you.

Did you notice that 'exercise' isn't even on my main list? One thing at a time, my friend!
